Registration is now open for the 2027 Oceania Zonal Chess Championships, to be held in Christchurch from 22- 27 January 2027.
This is a major Oceania event with Open, Women’s Zonal, and Zonal Blitz sections, and the organisers have made it clear that places are limited. The official event page says the Open section is capped at 160 general entries, with additional official places separate from that limit.
That means players who want in should not wait. The event will close once the general entry cap is reached, or otherwise on 15 January 2027.
- Venue: Christchurch Town Hall, 86 Kilmore Street, Christchurch
- Dates: 22-27 January 2027
- Format: 9-round Swiss
- Time control: 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move
- Eligibility: players must have a FIDE ID and be registered under a Zone 3.6 federation
The organisers also note that direct titles are available, depending on entries, which should make this one especially attractive for strong players across Oceania.
If you are eligible and thinking about playing, the practical advice is simple: register early.
